Department History & Mission
Our Department of Humanities and Social Sciences was established in 1997 in the ABET accreditation process, modeled after the Social Science departments in the world's most prestigious technical universities. In 2021, the name of our department was changed to "Sociology" by YÖK.
Our academic staff carries out research and publication activities in fields such as philosophy, sociology, history, political science, urban studies and anthropology.
It contributes to the educational activities of our university by opening an average of sixty classes for approximately two thousand five hundred students each year.
The Department of Sociology aims to develop and enrich the analytical thinking and communication skills of ITU students with a questioning perspective on all issues related to human and society.
